Indications for Generic Sinemet
Sinemet is made up of carbidopa and levodopa.
Levodopa is a chemical which is converted into dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a chemical which is usually low in patients experiencing the symptoms brought about by Parkinson's disease.

You should also not take Sinemet if you have an allergy to carbidopa or to levodopa. Tell your doctor of the other medications you are taking like metoclopramide, isoniazid, phenytoin, papaverine, blood pressure medications, antidepressants and medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
If you have narrow-angle glaucoma, a history of skin cancer or unusual skin lesions, you should not use Sinemet. Inform your doctor of any other special medical conditions that you are being treated for, including heart disease, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, a heart rhythm disorder, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD, liver disease, kidney disease, a hormonal disease, an intestinal or stomach ulcer, depression or other mental illness and wide-angle glaucoma. If you have any of these, your dose may need to be changed or adjusted.
Sinemet belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that the effects of the drug on a developing baby are not known. It is important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding before taking Sinemet.
The disintegrating tablet form of this drug could contain phenylalanine. If you have PKU or phenylketonuria, inform your doctor.
If your symptoms are not improving after treatment of a couple of weeks, consult your doctor.

Dosage and Administation of Generic Sinemet

Sinemet could be taken with or without meals. Try taking doses at regular intervals to make sure that there is a constant amount of the medication in your body all the time.
If you switch from taking the regular tablets to taking the extended-release tablets, you might notice that it takes a bit longer for the medication to start working. Consult your doctor if this concerns you.
The extended-release tablet should not be crushed, broken or chewed as doing so could release too much of the drug to be released at once. Swallow it whole. However, if you are taking the regular tablet, you could crush or break it to make swallowing easier. If you are using the orally disintegrating tablet, place it in your mouth and allow it to dissolve. Do not chew it or swallow it whole.
It could take a couple of weeks of using Sinemet before your symptoms start improving. If they do not, consult your doctor.
Your doctor may require you to come in for regular tests and checkups to ensure that the medication is helping improve your condition and is not causing harmful effects. Never miss any scheduled appointments.
If you miss a dose, take it as you remember. If the next dose is coming up, just skip the dose you missed and then take the next scheduled one. Never take two doses at once.
If you overdose on Sinemet, seek emergency medical help right away. A symptom of a Sinemet overdose would be an uneven heart rate.
