Prilosec or omeprazole works through decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach.
Prilosec is generally prescribed for the treatment of the symptoms of GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease and other conditions which are caused by having excess stomach acid. Important Information about Generic Prilosec
Before you take Prilosec or omeprazole, make sure to inform your doctor if you have any drug allergies. Also tell your doctor if you are taking any medications as there are some which could interact with Prilosec including blood thinners such as warfarin, clopidogrel, disulfiram, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, phenytoin, atazanavir, theophylline, ketoconazole, ampicillin, insomnia or anxiety medications and iron supplements.
Also tell your doctor if you have any special medical conditions such as heart disease and liver disease. If you have any of these, your dose may have to be changed or adjusted.
Prilosec may be used in combination with other drugs and antibiotics. To make sure that your condition would be treated, take all of your prescribed medications. Never change your dose without the advice of your physician.
Prilosec should be taken for the entire period that it has been prescribed for you, even if your symptoms have already improved.
Prilosec should only be taken once daily for 14 days. It could take up to four days before you feel the effects of the medication. Do not take more than one Prilosec tablet in a day.

Dosage and Administration of Generic Prilosec
Prilosec or omeprazole should only be taken as it has been prescribed for you by your physician. Never take it in a larger dose or for a longer period of time than what has been recommended. To be sure, follow the prescription label at all times.
Prilosec is typically taken before meals, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Each dose, however, should be taken with plenty of water.
If you are using the delayed-release capsule, make sure that you would not be crushing, breaking or opening it. Doing so could release too much of the drug at one time. You could instead swallow the capsule whole.
If you miss a dose of Prilosec, take it once you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, you could just skip the one that you missed and then take the next scheduled one. Never take double doses.
If you overdose on Prilosec, seek emergency medical help at once. Some of the symptoms of an overdose would include blurred vision, a fast heartbeat, vomiting, nausea, sweating, vomiting, dry mouth, headache and drowsiness.
