Indications for Generic Nizoral
Nizoral or ketoconazole is a type of anti-fungal drug which comes in tablet form and is indicated for the treatment of various fungal infections in the body such as candidiasis ad oral thrush. It can also be administered to patients who have severe and hard-to-treat fungal infections which have not cleared after using ointments and treats.
Important Information about Generic Nizoral
You should not take Nizoral if you are sensitive or allergic to ketaconazole.
It would be important to inform your doctor if you are taking any of these drugs: antacids, anticoagulants; anti-ulcer medications, astemizole, digoxin, isoniazid, cisapride, cyclosporine, methylprednisolone, midazolam, phenytoin, glyburide and chlorpropamide, rifampin, terfenadine, tacrolimus, theophyllines and triazolam.
Inform your doctor if you are trying to become pregnant or are already pregnant as Nizoral should only be taken during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the possible harm to the baby. It would also be important to inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding as Nizoral could be passed to your baby through breast milk.
If you have a liver condition, your doctor may require you to undergo some tests as Nizoral or ketaconazole could cause serious or fatal damage to your liver.
Nizoral should be stored in room temperature and away from heat, moisture and light.
Dosage and Administration of Nizoral
Nizoral or ketoconazole should only be taken exactly as it has been prescribed. It should be taken until tests show that the fungal infection has significantly diminished. Do not stop using the medication without seeking the advice of your doctor first as it could cause the infection to return.
Nizoral is best taken with meals so that stomach upset would be avoided. It should also not be taken with antacids and alcohol. If you need to take an antacid, you need to wait at least two to three hours after taking Nizoral and before taking the antacid.
If a dose is missed, just take it as you remember but if your next dose is almost up, just wait for the next dose. Never double your dose if you miss one.
If you suspect an overdose, make sure to seek emergency medical help.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the side effects which could possibly be experienced would include vomiting, nausea. These symptoms usually go away after some time but if they do not or if they worsen, inform your doctor right away. Also inform your doctor if you feel any symptoms which could mean liver damage such as unusual fatigue, jaundice, dark urine, loss of appetite or pale stools.
