Indications for Generic Lamisil

Lamisil or terbinafine is a type of an antifungal antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of infections that are caused by fungus which affects the toenails or the fingernails. Lamisil can also come in oral granules which can be used for the treatment of a fungal infection in the scalp hair follicles of children who are four years or older.

Lamisil may also be taken for other conditions which are not listed here.

Important Information about Generic Lamisil

Before taking Lamisil, make sure to inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease or if you have an autoimmune disorder like psoriasis or lupus.

Lamisil should be taken for the full period that has been directed by your doctor even if the symptoms go away before the entire course of treatment has been completed. The typical duration for a treatment with Lamisil is six to twelve weeks.

Lamisil or terbinafine cannot treat viral infections like the flu or the common cold.

Lamisil belongs to the FDA pregnancy category B, meaning it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn child. Make sure that you would be informing your doctor if you are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant during your treatment. Also inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Dosage and Administration of Generic Lamisil

Lamisil or terbinafine should be taken exactly as it has been prescribed. Never take it in a larger amount or for longer than advised without consulting your doctor first.

Lamisil should be taken with at least eight ounces or one full glass of water. On the other hand, Lamisil granules must be sprinkled on mashed potatoes or a spoonful of pudding. Never mix them with fruit juices, applesauce or other acidic foods. The mixture should be swallowed immediately without chewing. The mixture must be taken with a meal. Never save an unconsumed mixture for later use.

Lamisil should be stored in room temperature and kept away from too much light, heat or moisture. Oral granules of Lamisil should be kept in their sealed packet up until they are going to be used.

If you miss a dose, just take it as your remember but if your next dose is almost up, then just take wait for the next dose and skip the missed dose altogether. Never take two doses at once.

If you think that you have taken more than what has been directed, seek emergency medical help. Some symptoms of Lamisil or terbinafine overdose would include dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, frequent urination and skin rash.

Possible Side Effects of Generic Lamisil

Some of the less serious side effects that could possibly be caused by Lamisil or terbinafine would include heartburn, diarrhea, stomach pain, fatigue, headache, sore throat, cold symptoms, itching or mild skin rash, an unpleasant or unusual taste in your mouth and a decreased taste sensation.

Some of the more serious side effects include joint pain or swelling, fever, chills, swollen glands, body aches, patchy skin color, butterfly-shaped skin rashes over your nose and cheeks, vision impairment and weight loss because of decreased taste sensation.

Lamisil may cause liver damage in patients who already have an existing liver condition. To avoid this, make sure that you inform your doctor of any liver impairment that you have or suspect so that testing could be done.
