Indications for Generic Diflucan
Diflucan or fluconazole is a type of antifungal antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of infections which are caused by fungus in the mouth, throat, lungs, esophagus, bladder, blood and the genital area. It can also be used for the prevention of fungal infections in patients who have weakened immune systems caused by bone marrow transplant, cancer treatment or diseases like AIDS.
Important Information about Diflucan
Diflucan should not be used if you are allergic to fluconazole or to similar drugs like clotrimazole or Lotrimin, econazole or Spectazole, ketoconazole or Nizoral, miconazole or Monistat, sertaconazole or Ertaczo, sulconazole or Exelderm, terconazole or Terazol, tioconazole or Vagistat-1 and voriconazole or Vfend. Never use Diflucan if you are taking terfenadine or Seldane and cisapride or Propulsid.
Before you take Diflucan or fluconazole, make sure that you inform your doctor if you have a heart rhythm disorder, kidney disease, liver disease or long QT syndrome.
Diflucan cannot treat viral infections like the flu or the common cold.
Diflucan belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means it is not known whether it could harm an unborn child so make sure that you would be telling your doctor if you are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding a baby.
Diflucan or fluconazole tablets should be stored at room temperature and away from excessive heat and moisture. Liquid Diflucan may be stored in the refrigerator but not in the freezer. Throw away leftover liquid medicine once it is over two weeks old.
Dosage and Administration of Generic Diflucan
You should take Diflucan or fluconazole exactly as prescribed for you. Never take it in large doses than what has been advised. It should also be taken for the entire period that has been prescribed by your doctor even if your symptoms get better before the entire length of the treatment is over.
Your dosage would be based on the type of infection that you are being treated for. For vaginal infections, treatment can be done by just taking one pill. Other infections may require a double dose for the first dose. Remember to always follow the instructions of your doctor and inform him if your symptoms are not improving.
Diflucan should be taken with plenty of water. If you are taking the liquid form of Diflucan, make sure that you would be shaking the bottle first and would be using a special dose measuring device.
If you miss a dose, you need to take it as soon as you remember; however, if your next dose is almost up, you could just altogether skip your missed dose and then take it at the next schedule. Never take additional doses a one time to make up for the missed dose.
If you believe or if you have taken too much of Diflucan, seek emergency medical assistance. Some of the symptoms of a Diflucan or fluconazole overdose would include having unusual thoughts and behavior and confusion.
Possible Side Effects of Generic Diflucan
Some of the possible less serious side effects of Diflucan or fluconazole would include mild nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, upset stomach, headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching and an unpleasant or an unusual taste in your mouth. These side effects are temporary and will go away eventually but if they do not or if they worsen, make sure to inform your doctor right away. Also seek for emergency medical help if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or the swelling of your face, tongue, throat or lips or if you experience any of the more serious side effects like stomach pain, nausea, low fever, loss of appetite, clay-colored stools, dark urine, jaundice, chills, flu-like symptoms, red skin rash, sever blistering and seizures or convulsions.
