Indications for Generic Desogen

Desogen or ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel has a combination of several female hormones which prevent ovulation or the release of an egg from the ovary. Desogen can cause a change in the cervical mucus and the uterine lining, which makes it a lot more difficult for the sperm to reach the uterus as well as harder for the fertilized egg to implant on the uterine lining.

You should also not use Desogen if you have these conditions: any history of blood clot, stroke and other circulation problems; a cancer that is hormone-related like uterine or breast cancer; liver disease; liver cancer; abnormal vaginal bleeding; migraine headaches; severe high blood pressure; a heart valve disorder; a history of jaundice which is caused by the use of birth control pills.

As you first start taking Desogen, you may be advised by your doctor to use a second form of birth control. Always follow the instructions of your doctor.

It is important to note that taking hormones could increase the risk of having blood clots, heart attack and stroke, especially if you are smoking and if you are older than 35 years.

There are some drugs which could make Desogen less effective and could result in an unwanted pregnancy. Inform your doctor of all the medications that you are taking and do not start taking any drug without informing your doctor. Dosage and Administration of Generic Desogen

Desogen or ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel should only be used as it has been prescribed. Never use it in a larger dose or for a longer period of time than what has been recommended for you. The first pill is usually taken on your period’s first day or on the first Sunday from your period. Follow all of the instructions of your doctor.

Desogen has a 28-day birth control pack which has seven "reminder" pills which would help you to stay on your regular cycle. Your period would usually start as you use the reminder pills.

Breakthrough bleeding may be experienced during the first three months of taking Desogen. If the bleeding continues or starts to get very heavy, inform your doctor right away.

You should take a pill once daily and not more than 24 hours apart. Once the pills run out, you need to start a new pack the next day. This is because you might get pregnant if you would not be using Desogen regularly. Make sure to get your prescription refilled before completely running out of pills.

While taking Desogen, you may be required by your doctor to come in for regular visits. Never miss any scheduled appointments.

If you miss a pill, your chances for getting pregnant greatly increases. If you miss one, follow the specific instructions that your doctor has given you. If you do not have them, call your doctor before taking another pill.

If you feel that you have used too much Desogen, seek medical help right away. Some overdose symptoms include nausea, vaginal bleeding and vomiting

Some of the side effects that can possibly be experienced when taking Desogen would include mild nausea, bloating, vomiting, stomach cramps, tenderness, breast pain, swelling, increased hair growth, freckles, loss of hair on the scalp, weight or appetite change, vaginal itching or discharge, decreased sex drive, nervousness, headache, dizziness and tired feeling. If these do not go away or if they worsen or if you start experiencing more serious symptoms, seek medical assistance right away.
