Aricept or donepezil works by improving the function of the nerve cells of the brain. It prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine. Patients with dementia usually have low levels of acetylcholine, a chemical that is important for the processing of memory, reasoning and thinking.

methscopolamine, scopolamine, phenytoin, Phenobarbital, propantheline, rifampin, quinidine, antifungal antibiotics, aspirin and other NSAIDs.
Aricept belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that the effects of the drug on a developing have not yet been studied adequately. Because of this, tell your doctor if you are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Dosage and Administration of Generic Aricept
Aricept or donepazil should only be taken as it has been prescribed for you and not in a larger dosage or for a longer time. Check the prescription label for the exact dosing instructions.
Aricept could be taken with or without meals.
If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet or ODT of Aricept, allow the tablet to dissolve in your mouth. Do not chew or swallow it whole. Swallow a couple of times as the tablet dissolves. Once it has dissolved completely, drink plenty of water.
Aricept is typically taken right before bedtime. Follow the specific instructions of your doctor.
If you miss a dose, take it as you remember. However, if the next dose is almost up, you could just skip the dose that you missed and then take the next scheduled dose. Never take double doses to make up for a dose that you missed.
If you used too much Aricept, seek emergency medical attention right away. Some symptoms of an Aricept overdose would include vomiting, drooling, severe nausea, lightheadedness, blurred vision, a slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, shallow breathing, seizure and fainting.
