Indications for Generic Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg

Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg or ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel is made up of a combination of several female hormones which prevent ovulation or the release of an egg from the ovary. Alesse can also cause some changes in the uterine lining and in the cervical mucus, which make it harder for sperm cells to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to reach the uterus and embed in the uterine lining.

Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg is generally prescribed as a contraceptive for the prevention of pregnancy. It can also be used for other conditions and purposes that are not listed here.

Important Information about Generic Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg

Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg or ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel should not be used if you are already pregnant or if you have recently had a baby. You should also not use Alesse if you have had a stroke, blood clot or other circulation problems as well as if you have a hormone-related cancer like breast or uterine cancer, diabetes, abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver cancer, liver disease, severe high blood pressure, a heart valve disorder, migraine headaches or if you have a history of jaundice which is caused by birth control pills.

When you first use Alesse, you may be advised by your doctor to make use of a second form of birth control method.

It is important to note that taking hormones may increase the risk of having blood clots, heart attacks or stroke, particularly if you are smoking or if you are older than 35.

Make sure to tell your doctor of Any other drugs or medications that you are using as they may become less effective when used with Alesse or they could interact with Alesse. This would include prescription and non-prescription medications that you are taking, including vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements, particularly acetaminophen or Tylenol, ascorbic acid or vitamin C, prednisolone or Orapred, theophylline or Respbid, cyclosporine or Neoral, St. John's wort, antibiotics, seizure medications, barbiturate sedatives like secobarbital or Seconal and HIV or AIDS medications.

Dosage and Administration of Generic Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg

Only take Alesse 0.03/0.15 mg as it has been prescribed. Never take it in a larger amount or for a longer time than what your doctor has recommended. Take one pill daily and not more than 24 hours apart. If the pills run out, take another one from a new pack the next day. It is important to use Alesse regularly as you might get pregnant if you do not.

You would generally be advised to take the first pill on your menstrual period’s first day or on the first Sunday from the time your period began. Always follow the instructions of your doctor.

There are some 28-day packs which have seven "reminder" pills that would help you keep your regular cycle. You would usually have your period as you use these “reminder” pills.

It is possible that you experience breakthrough bleeding, particularly during the first three months. Inform your doctor if the bleeding continues or if it becomes heavier.

If you miss an "active" pill, you need to take two pills the day that you remember. You would then need to take a pill daily for the rest of the pack. When you miss two "active" pills consecutively in the first or second week, you need to take two pills daily for two consecutive days. You would then need to take a pill daily for the rest of the pack. Make sure that you use a second form of birth control method for seven days after missing the pills. If you miss two "active" pills in the third week or if you miss three consecutive pills within the first 3 weeks, then throw out the entire pack and then start a new pack on the same day if you start on Day 1. However, if you start on a Sunday, then keep taking a pill daily until Sunday. When Sunday comes, you can throw out the whole pack and then start the new pack on the same day. The same goes if you miss a total of three “active” pills within the first three weeks.

When you miss two or more pills, then you might not have a period in the month.
